California Association to Aid Ukraine Brings Needed Wheelchairs to Ukraine!!!
In partnership with Global Mobility and UCP/Wheels for Humanity for nearly 20 years, CAAU has delivered over 12 shipments of wheelchairs and other mobility devices to needy people in Ukraine. Next month, CAAU volunteers will be traveling to Ukraine to assist with a delivery that will target wounded soldiers.
Please meet Mykhajlo Lialia, a Ukrainian hero who was injured while fighting Russian-backed separatist forces in eastern Ukraine. Mykhajlo suffered a spinal fracture that permanently paralyzed him below the waist. He successfully completed extensive rehabilitation. While he accepts his limitations, he dreams of having a “sports wheelchair” (a light, very mobile wheelchair) similar to what he used during rehabilitation, “If I could get a hold of one, I would feel more whole. It would make my life that much more easy.”
In just a few weeks, CAAU will deliver wheelchairs to Mykhajlo, and other injured soldiers in Kyiv and Lviv. This special delivery is in addition to our ongoing program provides wheelchairs to people who have disabilities caused by cerebral palsy, stroke and other medical conditions.
This year’s team includes Yarko Maryniuk, Vasyl Tarasko and Paul Micevych from CAAU, and David Richard from our new partner Global Mobility. We will be distributing wheelchairs in Lviv and Kyiv this October.
